so...

i just got a shiny new iphone and want to try and bring some of the super cool goodness that I get with pyTivo over to my iphone. I was wondering if it would be feasible to use python/ffmpeg to stream/convert all of my media on the fly so that it can be viewed on the iphone. It seems to me this should be totally possible since this is what pyTivo does for the Tivo. What I envisioned was having a webapp like html page with links to all the media files in a directory and then when you click on them having ffmpeg convert to mp4 on the fly and python httpserve them out to the iPhone quicktime player.

basically i am tired of looking for something that does this in Linux or OSX. I know tversity will do it, but reeallly dont want to blow away my linux box for it. Im not really a "from scratch" level of developer but feel comfortable enough to assemble parts from other projects to try and make this work.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Bill

I would say plenty possible, but a lot of work Smile

you will have to create some type of iPhone app that basically serves as a video client listening for any type of video server. Then you will have to create some type of server on your machine that allows you to basically do what pyTivo does....

My advice: Transcode video that you have to fit on an iPhone and sync what video you want to your iPhone when ready...it would be a heck of a lot easier to do.
