I'm a couple weeks behind with this news, but I just learned that there was a major fork in FFmpeg recently, with the new project now going by the name "Libav". I'm not sure yet what impact this will have on pyTivo, if any. _________________ My pyTivo fork . My page
I finally finished reading through the soap opera of threads. Sheesh.
Not going to try to summarize what happened.
But moving forward people will have to choose whether they use ffmpeg or libav with pyTivo. The clear issues will come from if either side of the fork changes the command line options or console output, then pyTivo code will need to adapt.
The not so clear issue is what enhancements will be added to which side versus what will continue to be merged on both sides.
I'm praying for reunification, but I doubt it will happen given the drama on both sides.
update: libAV has finally diverged from the FFmpeg significantly by changing the binary names. So unless pyTivo is modified to work with the new 'avconv' noone needs to worry about the differences between the two in relation to pyTivo.
FFmpeg seems to integrate most all changesets from libAV anyways so I feel pyTivo should stick with the FFmpeg requirement for now.
