I recently moved out of a place where I had access to my videos via pyTivo on a Series 2. Now I would like to get my own Tivo to be able to do this. I do not need it to be HD or a million hours or anything like that. I'd be happy with 20 or 40 hours, but I want to make sure I get something capable of using pyTivo.

I have done some searching on ebay and have found some TCD540040 and TCD24004A for sale for under $40 or $50. I wanted to check with the gurus here before I buy anything, because I'd like to get the cheapest option available. I won't really need much storage on my Tivo, because I have ample storage already on my computer. Ideally I would like my Tivo to be able to use wireless ethernet (I haven't done any research yet on this) but that is not a deal breaker.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

EDIT: Just out of curiosity, am I also right to assume that no Tivo can do 1080p?

No Tivo will output 1080p. A 1080p file will play but will be played at the settings for the Tivo output. When considering the cost of the unit, consider the cost of the subscription. Does not really make much sense to put a 300dollar sub on a 4 year old $50 box. The older S2 units also do not have digital tuners etc. Suggest you look at a TivoHD or pickup an Ebay S3.

Any S2 standalone should work with pyTivo. But personally I wouldn't buy anything except a TiVo HD.
