We should start a thread about this. Looks like a completely reworked TIVO, that can now be ordered!!!!
Tivo, music, web, etc. |

Seems like a yawner to me...certainly not convinced it will be worth an upgrade from an HD. Two questions from me would be
1) can you still easily upgrade the hard drive with existing tools?
2) Of course, will pyTivo functionality be affected? Seems like the main changes are an upgraded processor to run a fancier interface, but maybe the underlying Tivo engine is relatively unchagned? Hopefully this will mean pyTivo should still work.
At any rate, unless I'm missing something, I'll stick with my HD now that i've got it working relatively well with pyTivo. |

I agree.
It looks like it is completely internet-based. Even icons are slow coming over as they come off the internet. Tivo is supposedly still deciding what to cache. My answer? How about EVERYTHING to the HD as it is pulled from the internet? Icons, logos, descriptions, IMDB stuff, etc.
Yes, I hope this isn't the end of pytivo as they roll out the TivoHD version of the system. I assume they will roll out 11.0e, which is the Australian version with a bit of the new interface, not all, but some, so the functionality works equivalent between a TivoHD and a Premiere |

The Australians are running 11.3, not 11.0e. Personally I hope to see 14.x on the S3/HD, just not the HD interface. The Premiere can supposedly switch to the old interface if desired, which means that everything still has to work with the old interface, which means that 14.x should work on the older machines. So, new trick play, transport streams, QWERTY remote, other goodies.
Anyway, it's not the end of pyTivo. Beta testers tell me that HMO in 14.x is working much as before (though of course you can get transport streams, as in Australia). _________________ My pyTivo fork . My page |

Tivo, is dancing on this issue, because the TivoHD is so CPU underpowered that the new interface would be VERY SLOW. Now that it is out, many of us were beta testing pieces of the interfaces on the TivoHD, and it was VERY slow.
Hopefully, it has been optimized andit could be released for the older machine.
Not to mention the fact that I do not want to prom a new premiere. I like my TivoHD, thank you! |

Oh man, there is an 14.x beta? I would have liked to been on that one and instead of just the 11.0f one. IF they are indeed showing portions, or a good portion of the new flash interface as a beta then that might mean the new interface on the S3/HD!
Luckily I have been in the market for a 2nd Tivo for the bedroom since xmas and decided two months ago to not buy an HD but instead wait to see if something would be announced at CES. I guess my hunch was correct; just not at CES though.
Off to see what deals they will make with me for the Premier... |

| I plan to wait until the folks at mfslive figure out the upgrade path for drives. Would like not to buy the XL model if I don't have to. Either way the drive will get replaced with a 2TB if the regular model will support it, if not, an XL. By then, I hope our good friend here Mr McBrine might have some of the pytivo elements figured out for the Premiere. |

Hmm, this seems like an interesting feature we might benefit from. It could just be Tivo Desktop as a .dll/api but there might be something new here:
http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/10/hp-mediasmart-add-in-adds-tivo-compatibility-enables-video-tran/
From the engadget article:
"HP has announced a partnership with TiVo that allows MediaSmart users to install a Windows Home Server add-in, enabling the two devices to talk sweet nothings to each other. From within the WHS console you'll be able to suck recorded content from the TiVo onto the MediaSmart's expansive storage array and, from there, play it on any of your compatible devices (PC, Mac, Xbox, PS3, etc.). It appears to be just TiVo Desktop as a WHS plugin, like TiVo Publisher. _________________ My pyTivo fork . My page |

Yeah, I use kmttg for that functionality, but haven't actually been running it on WHS. It runs on another box, but saves the data onto a WHS share. That's been working fine, but I believe it would probably run fine as a service on the WHS box, but just haven't gotten around to trying it. People have reported success on Server 2003, so don't see why WHS would not work.
I can't initiate the transfers from the Tivo, but I can set up automated transfers for certain shows that I want to save. |

| Anyone talking about a beta that they participated in is violating their NDA, even after the beta is closed. Please don't. |
