I was looking for books and I found "Hacking TiVo" from Jeff Keegan.
The link says that it only applies to series 1 and 2. I'd like to buy an S3, so maybe this book would be worthless to me.
I'm not sure any of those books would be helpful as far as pyTivo goes. They're mostly about modifying the TiVo, where pyTivo works with unmodified TiVos, but using partly undocumented interfaces. "Beginning TiVo Programming" is useful for HME, but pyTivo is based on the earlier (though not obsolete) HMO, which is barely mentioned in that book.
The key document for understanding HMO is this one, though it only explicitly covers music and photos. Beyond that, you'll have to read the pyTivo code itself, along with the notes in the git changelog, and as much of pytivo.armooo.net, this board and the original pyTivo thread on TCF as you can manage.
But first, you should get a TiVo. I must say, I find it strange that you feel you want to contribute to a project that you haven't even tried yet. Can you explain your motivation? _________________ My pyTivo fork
